UPDATE: The beard is now gone! £265 has been raised so far, thanks to all who donated! The page is still open for further donations.
MacMillan Cancer Research are running a "Brave the Shave" campaign to get people to be sponsored to shave their hair off to raise funds to stand proudly alongside men and women with cancer.
One of our leads, John Ellis, has taken the challenge. However, as a confirmed slap head already, shaving his head is not a big deal. But shaving his beard is. It's been sported for over 20 years in various guises and has never been deliberately shaved off in all that time. To quote John's page:
As a confirmed slap head, shaving my head for charity would not be much of a sacrifice. However, I've been sporting a beard for most of the past 20+ years. In that time, I think I've removed the beard 3 times, each time due to a trimming accident. At the moment it's a luxuriant goatee, politely nestling under my chins. So I've decided to shave off the beard for charity, specifically for Macmillan Cancer Support, in fond memory of loved ones who have been lost to cancer: my mum Joan, my father-in-law Alan, my step-father-in-law Geoff, several aunts and uncles, it's quite a long list. For me, losing the beard is a big deal, it's a fundamental part of who I am, and especially as my lovely wife says she can tell what I'm thinking when it's gone before. So, please make a donation, and the beard will be going on Saturday 1st August.
Please consider sponsoring John's shaving adventures. Let's try and beat his target of £500!
